In addition to being one of the most famous female poets, Emily Dickinson was an avid gardener, known in her hometown for her incredible green thumb. Many of her favorite flowers make an appearance in her poems, including:

Roses make an appearance a whopping 51 times in her poems, including:
"Nobody knows this little Rose --
It might a pilgrim be..."

Emily often referred to herself as a daisy in her poems, a nickname also given to her by Samuel Bowles. "The daisy follows soft the sun" is a love poem that scholars believe was meant for Bowles.

Poppies are a symbol of peace, which appear in the last line of "It was a quiet seeming day"

Emily received a jasmine vine as a gift from Samuel Bowles, and it appears most notably in her "Apotheosis":

Come slowly, Eden!
Lips unused to thee,
Bashful, sip thy jasmines,
As the fainting bee"
...

Lilacs are the focal point of her "Upon a Lilac Sea"

Daffodils also appear several times, but my favorite is:

"Perhaps you'd like to buy a flower?
But I could never sell.
If you would like to borrow
Until the daffodil

Unties her yellow bonnet
Beneath the village door,
Until the bees, from clover rows
Their hock and sherry draw,

Why, I will lend until just then,
But not an hour more!"
